Who are we...
North Birkenhead Development Trust (NBDT) is a social enterprise and development trust which seeks to make the North End of Birkenhead a better place in which to live. NBDT is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity established by a partnership of local residents and statutory services in 2004 following a realization that positive investment in North Birkenhead was essential if regeneration was to make a difference. The company is controlled by a Board which includes representatives from the public sector and local residents. The Board employs staff to manage the company on a day to day basis. Profits are not distributed but are ploughed back into the local community.
NBDT currently manages the St James Centre which includes Wirral Met College, St James Library, Bidston and St James Children’s Centre, Miriam Place Day Nursery, the Open Door Café and Birkenhead Health Action Area.

- 2001 – Feasibility Study
- 2004 – Construction began
- 25th February 2005 – Patricia Routledge opened the Centre
- 2006 – Open Door Café received Heart of Mersey Award
- 2008 – Health Action Area opened in Centre
- 2008 – NBNF and NBDT received Live Wirral Community Awards for Building Strong Communities and Making Communities Safer
- 2009 – St James Centre received Wirral Champions Strictly Regeneration Award
